The Neutrality Acts were a series of acts that were passed in 1935, 1936, 1937, and 1939. These acts stated that the U.S. would bexternal image frankroosevelt1.jpge less involved in any upcoming wars. This was because of the fact that, people believed that U.S. involvement in World War I was the result of loans and trade with the United States’ allies. Out of the fear that history would repeat itself, the United States passed the Neutrality Acts. During this time, I was just a child. These acts made my parents, somewhat, happy because now it was probably insured that the U.S. would not give loans and participate in trade with other countries. The act that was passed in 1935 stated that it was illegal to ship war materials to enemies that were openly opposing the U.S. policy. This act also stated that it was illegal to sell weaponry to the enemy. The 1936 act banned the United States from giving loans to enemies, as well as the fact that it prohibited trade between a country and its belligerents (enemies). The 1937 act extended provisions to civil wars. This act also stated that the President of the United States had the authorization to hamper “nonmunitions sales to a cash-and-carry basis” ("Neutrality 1). The act in 1939 stated that U.S. ships were not allowed to carry and passengers or good to ports of the enemy. However, this act allowed the sales of United States munitions on a “cash-and-carry basis” ("Neutrality 1). All of these acts were shrunk and reduced buy the Lend-Lease Act in 1941, and all of these laws were repealed on November 13th of that year. external image 64c.jpgThe Lend-Lease Act permitted the president in allowing the selling, transferring titles to, exchanging, leasing, lending, or disposing of weapons that and provisions that help nations that are important to the United States ("Lend" 1). Another program that helped the United States, as well as other countries, is called Cash-and-carry. In this system, countries could by war materials and provisions for ready money ("Cash" 1).
